Homework Sheet week of March 28, 2011

First Grade Homework Sheet
Week of March 28, 2011

        This Friday will be our school First Friday Mass.  Of course, that means full uniform (long pants for boys and dresses for girls).  It also means no Learning Centers for that day.
        I hope you are working on your Lenten Mission box.  Some of the students have returned them already, but it would be wonderful if we have 100% participation.  Your First Grader knows that during Lent we do special things such as making sacrifices, engaging in prayer, doing good deeds, and giving to the poor.  Hopefully, filling your Mission box will be a family effort.
        We are in our third week of preparing for the Spell-A-Thon.  I encourage you to get many sponsors on your child’s sponsor sheet and take advantage of the 100% toward your fundraising assessment.  I love the fact that this is an academic fundraiser rather than just a selling activity.
        Please check the school calendar for upcoming dates and events.  Just a reminder:  Kindergarten testing is April 9th at 9:00a.m.  Progress Reports are scheduled for April 15th, we are doing as we did previously, which is reminding parents that reports are available 24/7 on Gradelink.  If you do want a printed copy, please let me know by Wednesday, April 13, and I will send it home with your student.

Monday:  Write Spell-A-Thon words #21-30 five times each;
        Phonics—“Geese on Wheels”

Tuesday:  Write Spell-A-Thon words #21-30 three times each;

First Grade Spell-A-Thon List 2011

1st Grade Spell-A-Thon
Dear 1st Graders and Parents,
        This is a list of words that your 1st grader will be studying for the next four weeks.  The Spell-A-Thon test will be on Friday, April 8th.  Please try to get lots of sponsors for this event.  The sponsor sheet was attached to the March newsletter.  If you need another sponsor sheet, you can download one from the website or pick up one in the office.  We will be doing review activities and practice tests from now until April 8.  That means we will not have our regular set of lists until after the Spell-A-Thon.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Homework Sheet Week of March14, 2011

First Grade Homework Sheet
Week of March 14, 2011

        Thank you to all of our wonderful First Grade parents who brought baked goods, donated money, and worked shifts at our Bake Sale yesterday.  At press time we had earned $225 which is a terrific total!  I am planning on purchasing “phonics phones” for our class which help with independent reading as children can hear themselves read aloud.  I will also be able to purchase more supplies for our Learning Centers.  Thank you to Rose Garcia for organizing our Bake Sale.  She and Don were there all day with me and other parents setting up, selling baked goods, and cleaning up about 2:00!  Several First Graders also helped holding signs and inviting parishioners to patronize our Bake Sale.
        Speaking of Learning Centers, I still need more volunteers for Wednesdays and Fridays.  I don’t have an aide on Fridays so I really need a few more volunteers.  Please let me know when and if you can help.  I do appreciate the wonderful parent/family support of this First Grade class.
        Please check the school calendar for upcoming events, free dress days, parish events such as the Parish Penance Service Monday, March 28th at 7:00, and other important announcements.
        Starting this week the whole school will be preparing for the sixth annual OLA Spell-A-Thon.  I have included the list of 40 words which the First Grade will be required to spell.  The test will be on Friday, April 8th.  We need two volunteers to be there that day at 8:30 a.m.  Please let Rose or me know if you are available.  Thank you in advance for your support!
        Please send new glue sticks, liquid glue, and sharpened pencils with your child as soon as possible.  Most students need new supplies at this time.  Thank you!

Monday:  Write Spell-A-Thon words #1-10 five times each;
        Math—“Surprise!”

Tuesday:  Write Spell-A-Thon words #1-10 three times each;
        Math—“Tip-Off”

Wednesday:  Write Spell-A-Thon words #1-10 two times each;
