Week of Nov. 21, 2011

I would like to wish all of our First Grade families a very blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!  We are looking forward to our “feast” on Tuesday. Thanks to our wonderful room parents and all who contributed; I know the children will enjoy your efforts.
There will be no homework this week and no spelling list.  We are engaged in many Thanksgiving activities which will keep us busy for these three half days.
Thank you for being on time and attending the Parent/Teacher conferences this week.  I always appreciate parents’ interest and involvement in the education of their students.  We are partners in this endeavor and our combined efforts make successful learning happen.

Week of Nov. 14, 2011

Please continue to send in canned food items for the “Free for Four” food drive.  It is important to teach our children to share what we have with the less fortunate in our community.

Report cards go home this Friday, the 18th.  I am very proud of the progress all of our students have made so far this year.  Please continue to supervise your child’s homework and carefully go over the papers sent home with him/her.  It is very important to read with your child every evening and practice sight words and spelling words.  I look forward to meeting with you next week for parent/teacher conferences.  Please be on time because each appointment is only twenty minutes and they are scheduled back-to-back each day.    Remember that these appointments are for parents only so please make arrangements for your child to stay at home.

Heather and Paula, our fabulous room parents are planning a “Thanksgiving Feast” for our students on the Wednesday before our holiday.  I hope you all respond to their requests and contribute to our celebration of thanksgiving.

First Grade Homework Sheet Week of Nov. 7, 2011

First Grade Homework Sheet
Week of Nov. 7, 2011

I would like to wish all of our military service men and women Happy Veterans’ Day.  My husband is a retired Navy Captain who served on nuclear submarines with 28 years of service.  Our son is currently a Navy Lieutenant serving on the USS Michigan, a Trident submarine in the Pacific, as well as, being the Submarine Liaison officer for Navy Seal Teams.  My father was an Army officer and helicopter pilot.  I know the sacrifices which are made by our military and their families, and we all need to take a minute and honor and thank them.  This truly is the land of the free because of the brave!!!!!!!
I hope you are all working on your Family Turkey Projects.  Your child can bring it in any time this week, and I would like all of them by next Monday.  Because of the short week, we will NOT have a new spelling this, and no words need to be written each night.  We will be doing review exercises in class.
One more reminder:  there is no hot lunch on Tuesday because it is Election Day and the hall will be used for voting.

Monday:  Math—“Monday Math”; read with parents

Tuesday:  Math—“Tuesday Math”; read with parents

Wednesday:  Math—“Wednesday Math”; read with parents

HAPPY VETERANS’ DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
