First Grade Homework Sheet

This Wednesday, Feb. 29, we are celebrating “Leap Day!”  For Math homework Tuesday night please help your child to collect or prepare 29 of the same items to bring to school Wednesday.  Your child could bring in 29 pennies, 29 cotton balls, 29 Q-tips, 29 grapes, or 29 of something more creative!  We will be focusing on the concept of the number, sets, groups of sets, comparisons and differences, etc.   Please be sure your child is prepared and brings in his/her items that day; this is the Math homework assignment.

First Grade Homework Sheet

Week of Feb. 20, 2012

This week begins the holy season of Lent.  We prepare for our great celebration of Christ’s death and Resurrection on Easter.  Your children are learning that Lent does not just mean “giving up” things for Catholics.  We make sacrifices, do good deeds, give alms, and take time for meaningful prayer.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.  This Wednesday we will attend Mass at 8:15 and receive our ashes.  Mass, of course, means full uniform (long pants for boys and dresses for girls).  We will not be having Learning Centers that day so perhaps many of you can attend Mass with us.

This Friday, Feb. 24 the second trimester Report Cards will be distributed.  All of your child’s graded papers will be returned after Report Cards go home.

The students are really enjoying Learning Centers, and I appreciate the volunteers who have helped so far.  We still need more adult volunteers, especially on Thursdays so if you are available, we would love to have you join us!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our First Grade Families!!!!  Heather and Paula have planned a wonderful celebration for Valentine’s Day tomorrow.  Please remember to send in your child’s donation of fruit for our “Friendship Salad” and Valentines for each student (30 in the class).  Just have your child sign his/her name in the “from” section and we will take care of helping distribute them.  We are still planning on having PE on Tuesday and the party will take place after that (about 1:15).

This Friday, Feb. 17 will be half day due to the 1:00 funeral for Ms. Mahina who recently passed away.  She was a devoted teachers’ aide at our school and she will be missed.  We all pray for the repose of her soul and for the comfort of her family.
