First Grade Homework Sheet Week of May 2, 2011

First Grade Homework Sheet
Week of May 2, 2011
Welcome back!!!  I hope you all had a wonderful Easter Vacation.  I can’t begin to tell you how special my time with my baby grandson, Jackson, was!  He is just amazing and gorgeous—do I sound like a grandmother or what?
I believe we have a grand total of 28 days of school left in this school year.  That is crazy!!  I don’t know where the time has gone.  We still have a lot to do so let’s keep everyone healthy, on-time, and committed to making this the best learning year ever.  As always, please check the school calendar and Helpful Reminders regularly for important dates and events.
This Friday is a very special annual event at Our Lady of the Assumption School.  It is our May Crowning of Mary.  We will begin with First Friday Mass and then participate in a Rosary Procession ending at our Mary statue.  Gabby Lopez has been chosen as the 8th grader to crown Mary.  The students vote on classmates who most embody the spiritual values of the Mother of Jesus.  What an honor!
If you are able, please send flowers with your child on Friday to place around the statue.  We try to keep the Mary statue surrounded by flowers during the month of May so your child can bring flowers throughout the month.  Thank you.
This will be the last week of Learning Centers for the year.  We have so many upcoming end-of-the-year events and projects to complete that we always seem to need more time.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our volunteers who have helped facilitate Learning Centers.  The students have loved this experience, and I couldn’t have done it without you!!!

First Grade Homework Sheet Week of April 18, 2011

First Grade Homework Sheet
Week of April 18, 2011

I hope you all have a wonderful blessed Easter with your families!  I will be leaving on Good Friday morning to go to Omaha to spend the holiday vacation with my daughter and her husband, and of course our grandson Jackson!  I can’t believe how fast this school year has gone; our First Graders are getting excited about Second Grade.  They have learned so much and made excellent progress all year.  We still have a lot to cover, so please help me keep our students on track and on task!
There will be no homework this week.  We are concentrating on Holy Week and I have included a special “Easter Cookie” recipe that I hope you can take the time to make.  It will be a very nice addition to your holiday preparation, and I know that our children love to help!
Take care and have a relaxing and fun Easter Vacation!  Please be sure to attend Mass and many of the other liturgical celebrations and prayer services offered at Our Lady of the Assumption.  Ask your First Grader to tell you about Holy Week; they all know a lot about it!

First Grade Homework Sheet
Week of April 4, 2011

Thank you again for our successful Bake Sale.  I have purchased 30 Phonics Phones which the students love!!  I can tell that they are already improving their individual reading skills.  The First Graders have gone crazy taking Accelerated Reader tests lately!  They understand how the program works, and they take the reading comprehension tests by themselves.  Most are passing tests with 100%!!!  They LOVE it (and so do I)!
This Friday will be the school-wide annual Spell-A-Thon.  Please send your SIGNED SPONSOR SHEET that day, and if you need another one, you can get one on the website or from the office.  The pledged donations will be due the Monday we come back after Easter Vacation.  Of course, you can add more pledges during vacation.
There will be no Learning Centers on Friday due to the Spell-A-Thon; although, we do need two volunteers per class for the event.  If you can be there, please let Rose Garcia know.  We need people here from 8:15-10:00.  Some of the other classes have been having a hard time getting volunteers for that day so we could actually use more than two people.  Thank you in advance!
